Here are some signs you may benefit from therapy:
You experience effects of trauma such as:
Nightmares, particularly involving a central event, theme, or person.
You find yourself being hypervigilant, meaning you are extra sensitive to your surroundings, and feel fearful of potential or hidden dangers.
You sometimes feel like you are back in a certain situation - you lose your present surroundings and can now see, hear, and smell everything that was present at the time of a traumatic experience.
You avoid certain places, people, or situations due to your painful experience with them.
You feel alone, like no one understands you. Maybe you even feel like you must be “crazy” sometimes.
You feel helpless, hopeless, or worthless.
If you are experiencing thoughts of harming yourself or someone else, please call 988 or 911. More information here.
You experience panic attacks: these can feel like random periods of intense fear, which usually coincides with your heart beating faster, feeling as though you can’t get a deep breath, and feeling either very cold or very hot.
You feel concerned that you are repeating certain patterns in your life that are not resulting in your desired outcome, however, you can’t seem to find a way to do things differently no matter how hard you have tried.
You’re struggling to adjust to a new situation, even if that new situation is a wonderful thing (such as a new baby, marriage, or job).
I mean, life is hard for everyone, right? Do I really need therapy?
All of these experiences are completely valid and are likely, at least in part, outcomes of your past experiences. I can help you to unravel the tangled thoughts in your head, and together we can make sense of what’s really going on. I can also offer various coping skills and referrals when appropriate.
